ACCESSORIZING WITH VINTAGE PIECES

Hi!  Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend.  The weather was perfect.  Trying not to think about it -but as we are getting closer to Labor Day, it's a gentle reminder that Fall is right behind us.

If you noticed, I've given my blog site a little make-over.  The hope is to do revamp the look with added details before year end (we shall see).  Hope you enjoy the simplistic, yet feminine look as much as I do.  The touches of pale pink, in my home office, inspired the new look on my blog page.

More touches of pink can be found in our home.  Specifically, the lovely spray roses I purchased last week.  When I saw them, I knew immediately how I wanted to arrange them.  My sister was antique shopping a few weeks ago and picked up this pedestal bowl for me.

Accessorizing with florals in pink colors is subtle enough that it won't upset the man in your life.

This bowl is universal - use it to hold trinkets; for bathroom necessities (cotton balls, Q-tips); store your favorite candy; or a nothing at all.

Taking the top off, I created a floral arrangement, using the pink spray roses.  Because the roses are small and abundant, they fit perfectly in the pedestal bowl.

Take a look at this vintage piece (with top):

Here's another look - using this vintage piece to make a floral arrangement:

I hope I've inspired you to take a look around your home and find the many uses of some of your existing home accessories.

NEW FROM POTTERY BARN: Ken Fulk Collection

Have you received the latest Pottery Barn catalog?  It's the September issue, introducing the Ken Fulk  Collection.  The exclusive collection is one to see from this San Francisco-based designer.  Filled with elegant and whimsy designs.  From his love of golden retrievers, to animal print accessories, and 60s-inspired designs.  I love his tailored look.

Here some of my favorites from the collection:

This bar cart is my absolute favorite, with it's brass finish and spoke wheels.

Admiral Bar Cart
Here's the bar cart styled with bar essentials.

Following in the same spoke wheel design, how cool are these chairs?

Admiral Chairs

Love the color of this Quilted Leather Sectional

Cheetah-Printed Hide Pillow.

For all the golden retriever lovers (or dog lovers):

Retriever Ice Bucket

How cute are these Retriever Andirons.

Orange Lacquer Boxes.  They remind me of an Hermes box. Such a classic and stylish look.

Painted Canvas Place Mat

Love these placemats.  To me, they resemble an envelope, clutch or a folded-up napkin.  Has this masculine and feminine look to it.

There is something so stylish and elegant about the Glass Chandelier and Sconce

HOME PROJECT: Jazzing Up IKEA Vittsjo Shelving Unit

Hey there!  Hope you all enjoyed the weekend.  I wanted to share with you a little project I completed   (but still working on decorating).

A few weeks ago, we hit our local IKEA store in Jersey to pick up a few things.  One of the items in particular, was the Vittsjo Shelving unit.  I've seen folks come up with their own unique version (using two units) and decided to try my hand as well (using one).

I wasn't sure what color to spray this unit (currently comes in red, black and white).  Most people have sprayed it gold (all the rage right now) but I wanted a color in between gold and silver (so I did both).  While I'm not 100% satisfied with the look (it's just me), I'll share with you my first draft (lol).  I think I may want to try silver-leafing an area to see if it I'm happy.

I love the overall look; especially with the added marble-look contact paper.  It gives this piece a more expensive etagere look that I was seeking.  And, you can't beat the price of $49.00!

This unit serves as a multi-functional piece, as it stands next to our back door.  It's a nice decorative unit, with my favorite home accessories and books.  It also stores Monty's accessories (leashes, harness, wipes, poop bags, etc.).

Here is the Vittsjo Shelving unit (purchased from IKEA in white):

Con-Tact Creative Covering - White Marble (single roll).
It has a green marble pattern to it with gray and white.  I lined the bottom and inner top shelves.

Baskets in a pretty silver and sage color.  Sage and Silver Kiva Bins (The Container Store) on sale
Spray paint: Krylon's 18K gold spray paint (Jo Ann's) and Rust-Oleum Metallic Satin Nickel (Home Depot).

I hope I've inspired you to create your own look.
