Apologies - This post was supposed to go live on Friday when I realized my updates were not saved!  I had to revert to draft and bring it to you today.  So, for those of you who caught it and then noticed it disappeared, now you know why (lol).

Monday is a fresh start!

With our bedroom make-over in progress, one decorating challenge has been styling my husband’s nightstand.  One thing to note, the hubs is a simple and low key, kinda guy.  Which left me thinking . . . what do men have on their nightstand?  And, more importantly, how should his bedside table look??  So, I asked my hubby what he would like to see on his nightstand?  His response?  “I don’t need anything – just my cell phone”.  Then, I asked myself, well . . what do I think would go nicely on his nightstand and function as well.

For women, a pretty candle, vase, tray, decorative box, floral arrangement and/or picture frame would complete our look.  Since my husband’s style is simple and non-specific, I decided to go for a cleaner look but with a masculine flair.

When decorating/styling a bedside table for him, first think about his necessities.  Does he like to read at night?  Does he wear or need glasses when getting up in the morning?  Does he like to have a glass of water by his bedside?  For example, a tray with these necessities can be a great starting point.  Most of us, having matching table lamps and alarm clock radios (yes, we still use alarm clock radios and my husband has his phone as a backup alarm).  To make it more personal, another item to add could be a picture frame of the family or just the happy couple.  Depending on the size of your bedside table, you can also add an accessory (a sphere, pottery vase or a small accessory).  Does he care about fashion and style?  There are great fashion books for males that would complement the nightstand.  Other options such as sports, photography, cars, etc.  Making his side of the table will balance what you have on your side; creating a beautiful space.

So happy to share with you, updates to our master bedroom makeover; specifically, styling his side of the bed.  Again, the décor is simple but accentuating that masculine flair with a couple of key pieces, completed the look.  Texture was one key element.

Plenty of space left to add his cell phone or a coaster for any drinks.

I purchased this hide and box on sale from Williams Sonoma home (sold out but tray option available and on sale here).  It was the perfect size to store items he doesn’t need on a day to day basis.  Surprisingly, he doesn’t wear a watch but has a couple of nice ones that I stored away but still accessible, should he need it.  The color was also perfect; pulling from the gray tones around the room.

Another masculine item purchased was this Golden Fist from CB2.  I love the sculptural design and the gold tone balances the gold tones I have on my side of the bed.  Here’s a funny story . . . after purchasing and decorating his table (without him knowing what I bought), I was curious to get his reaction.  I think it was either one evening or one morning, I heard him sing, “Fist Pump in the morning” / “Fist Pump in the evening” and was actually fist pumping the piece.  I cracked up laughing!  He said, “I actually like this piece”.  Whoo hoo (with a sense of relief and accomplishment)!!  To layer this look, I added a large book, creating depth and height.

fist pump . . .

A small picture of us, from our wedding day is also displayed to balance and complete the overall look.  My sister gave this to us as a gift.  I love and will always cherish this piece.  It has been moved to several decorating spots in our home.

When decorating, be creative.  Add personal touches and functional pieces that work for you (and him).  And, most of all, enjoy your space!

Thanks for stopping by and look forward to sharing with you, the entire master bedroom tomorrow.  Stay tuned!

Weekends come and go so quickly.  Wouldn't you agree?  The warmer weather (upper 50's) was a nice change, which left me craving more days like that.  I know. I know . . . soon.

And, when that warmer weather does roll around, I hope to be sporting a cape blazer.  Cape blazers are trending the fashion scene lately.  A perfect pairing, whether dressing up for a night out or dressing down on the weekend.

FRIDAY!!

image
What a week it has been!  Traveling to and from work this week was filled with delays and more delays.  But, I did have the opportunity for a night out this week - jazz night at Birdland in NYC.   I have always wanted to go to a jazz club in the city.  My father-in-law, a regular at Birdland, invited me for jazz night (yay)!  I jumped at the chance since it was within walking distance from Port Authority and it ended early.  We were entertained by David Ostwald's Louis Armstrong Eternity Band.  I was blown away with the talent!  I wish I knew how to play and instrument; especially because I am such a music lover.  I had a blast meeting some of the musicians.  Specifically, David Ostwald, Adrienne Cunningham and grammy winner Vince Giordano.

Guys . . . I am so happy the work week is at a close and the weekend is calling for warmer temperatures.  I'm so looking forward to Spring.  I have flower arrangements all over the house, in soft color tones.  I figured why not bring that spring-time feeling inside the house, since the outside temperatures are so cold.

I just had to share the image above.  There is flower shop near my job called Rose in Bloom.  They have some of the prettiest floral arrangements.  I swear, I could stay there for my entire lunch hour, coming up with floral designs I would love to put together.  The inspiration in a flower shop is just what I crave.  Now, how would you feel if I told you, they have a selection of roses that are naturally preserved in the prettiest vases and can last up to two years?  Pretty exciting right?  I have already picked out my favorite (above).  Buying flowers weekly can start to add up financially. Investing in a naturally preserved arrangement can be cost effective. To see the entire collection, click here.

Wishing everyone a great weekend and enjoy!

SNEAK PEEK INTO MASTER BEDROOM MAKEOVER: The Wallpaper

An up close look at the rhinestone details.

New accessories, like this acrylic leg, tufted bench and accent rug.

New accessories like this watercolor vase (Williams Sonoma) and ceramic box (H&M Home).  I found this vase for my sister's master bedroom makeover and loved it so much, I bought one for myself.
I'm thinking of hanging fashion illustrations on this wall.

If you follow me on Instagram, (joann3373), I posted a sneak peek picture of our wallpaper install on Friday.

While the room is not fully complete, I wanted to share glimpses of the wallpaper design.  I'm too excited to keep it to myself!  I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out.  It was just as I imagined . . . even more so; especially after seeing it up on the wall.

Still waiting on a few items and look forward to sharing with you the before and after, in the coming weeks.

Here are a few items I've put together that I would like to incorporate in the master bedroom makeover.

HAPPY FRIDAY!

Hi!  Sorry for the lack of posts this week.  I am taking a couple of days off of work to nurse my puppy, Quincy, who go neutered.  At the same time, I'm dog sitting - making sure my other dog doesn't go after Quincy's incision.  It has been exhausting with restless nights and long days.

On a brighter note, our master bedroom revamp is coming along nicely.  The wallpaper is up and it's GORGEOUS!!! I'm so in love.  I'm still waiting for a few items I purchased to come in the next couple of week.  One item I did order, an area rug, was delivered yesterday.  Ugh! I was disappointed when I set it up in our room.  It wasn't what I thought it would be.  This is why I don't like ordering online for large items.  It's such an inconvenience when I have to drive to the UPS store and ship it back.  Oh well, back to the drawing board.  It will be a few weeks before the room is complete.  I can't wait to share it with you.  I'll try to snap a sneak peek photo this weekend.  Be sure to check my camera roll on Instagram (joann3373).

In the meantime, for those of you still thinking of Valentine's Day gifts, here are a couple of simple but stunning ideas:

Just my style . . . flowers and a card.  And, how stunning are these!
