BENJAMIN MOORE'S 2015 COLOR OF THE YEAR: Guilford Green

Have you heard?  Last week, Benjamin Moore announced their 2015 Color the Year: Guilford Green (HC-116).

They are quoted as saying, "A neutral color that is a natural. A silvery green that works a wide range of color combinations - from neutrals to daring shades."  That works for me!  I see this color paired with a rich black, navy or plum.  Or, for a softer look, white and tan.

Here are some inspiring room designs painted in Guilford Green:

WEEKEND PROJECTS

Happy Tuesday!  I hope anyone that was off from work yesterday, enjoyed the three day weekend!  I spent the time painting.  First room was my soon to be home office and then I carried it into the second floor hallway.

I must admit, painting is no easy task.  I am definitely paying for it; being achy and sore all over.  I have an appreciation for those that are professional painters.  It takes a lot of prep work (taping, cutting in), patience and practice.  My legs got a work out, going up and down the ladder when I was cutting in the top edge of the walls and rolling.

All the paint colors in our home are by Benjamin Moore.  I'm just a big fan of the company and love the quality of their paints.  Since I'm trying to get a home office designed for the unused room, I knew I need to paint the room.  The existing colors in that space are not going to work for the design I have planned.   I knew I wanted to keep the space light and wanted a shade of gray.  I decided to go with Revere Pewter.  Depending on the lighting and the time of day, it's gray with some beige (greige).  It also works nicely with the wallpaper I have in mind (wallpapering one wall).

After painting the room, I loved it so much, I decided to paint the second floor with the same color.  My soon to be home office, is a half wall room (no door) and open.  The paint color I replaced was Hush AF-95.

It's a subtle change but makes a huge impact.  It's lighter and a cleaner look. I love the color!  I kept the color Sparrow at the end of the hall; used as an accent color.  It blends nicely with Revere Pewter.

Here are some pictures:

You can see the subtle color change.  Left is the color Revere Pewter and right is Hush.
Thinking of adding a molding piece of some sort to separate the room from the hallway.

DINING ROOM PROJECT (Part 1)

Last year (around this time) we completed our dining room project; adding crown molding, wainscoting, and trim to give the dining room more character.  Thanks to the inspiration from my fellow bloggers, this post is a two part series to the updates we did to our dining room.

The first part of this dining room project was giving the room character by adding molding and giving the room a new paint color.  The original paint color was dark.  After four years, I was tired/bored of what I had and wanted a "lighter" look.  Looking for the right paint color was key.  I wanted it to flow with the rest of the existing rooms in our house.

I searched the web for inspiration ideas.  My inspiration came from Kate at Centsational Girl.  Kate's wainscoting project was her living room (seen here and here).

Our project was a little different in that we didn't add any paneling to the existing wall.  It's a new house so we didn't want to rip up the base molding.  So, we added chair molding and my husband made picture frames for a wainscoting look; painting everything a glossy white (on the bottom). Adding a fresh new, lighter paint color made such an impact on the room.

Here's a before shot of the dining room; along with photos of the project.

Room color was Benjamin Moore Yorktown Green with a platinum glaze on top.

Walls have been primed, all furniture, windows and baseboard have been covered and ready for remodel

A huge thank you to Kate @ Censational Girl for the inspiration!  For those of you who do not follow her, I strongly suggest you do. She is super talented and such a giving person. I don't know her personally but her blog speaks for itself.

Check back in tomorrow for Part 2 of this dining room project, where I share another added piece to this dining room.
